Kemppi India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. to act as a Knowledge Partner for Welding for Skill Development Institute (SDI) to be set up in Visakhapatnam, India.
Eight Oil Sector Public Sector Units (HPCL, IOCL, BPCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, EIL and Balmer Lawrie) are setting up the SDI to impart skills and enhance the employability levels of the youth of Andhra Pradesh and others, with an initial corpus of Rs.10-12 Crores under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The society is formed with non-profit motive and registered under AP Registration Act 2001 (No.282 of 2016 dt 17.5.2016).
SDI-Visakhapatnam approached State Government for the allotment of 100-150 acres of land for setting up mega skill development centres as per the advice of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. In fact, Oil Industry is setting up five more of such skill centres across the country in a phased manner. In the meanwhile, the District Collector, Visakhapatnam and Commissioner, Greater Visakh Municipal Corporation have allotted temporary premises at Arilova (about 74 500 sq.ft built up area) for setting up the institute.
